Families . . .

NWTDT/ Pathways have always worked to support families and have actively encouraged inclusion and involvement at all levels who must be supported to never loose control of their lives. Family members are welcomed as individual members of Pathways Associates.

For many years we have been working to increase social inclusion and develop family leadership to enable disabled adults, their families and the people who support them make informed decisions in order to have the best life possible.

In order to achieve this aim, the NWTDT runs many training courses for individuals, families and professionals. In addition we facilitate the Regional Family Forum and support representatives’ link to the North West Regional Programme Board.

Annual events also bring together family members from across the region to hear how they can influence learning disability services and policy at national, regional and local levels.

"NWTDT trains parents so that they can ask good questions"

"The team helps self advocates and their families to understand policy guidance, eg. Valuing People Now and related DH papers, get together as self advocates or family members to share experiences, get their voices heard and be taken seriously, be supported on partnership boards and other decision making bodies."
